Zoho Invoice is free invoicing software that offers the ability for freelancers and small business owners to manage their accounting in an organized and professional way. Whether you are used to manually creating each invoice, struggling to keep track of payments or simply want to upgrade the level of professionalism in your business, the invoice templates and software Zoho provides—at no cost—is a great tool to achieve all of the above.
Zoho allows you to send up to 1,000 invoices per year. The platform allows you to accept payment, keep a record of invoices sent and received, as well as record off-line payment, view invoice history and keep track of payments. To create an invoice, you can choose between a selection of templates and then customize each one according to your business’s brand and aesthetic—a great way to add a professional touch to your invoicing process. The customization options allow you to change the way the item table looks, create invoices in multiple languages and bill in different currencies, include tax-related information on your invoice and customize different invoices according to clients.
Zoho also comes with the ability to create project estimates, with an overview of details like prices, discounts, terms and conditions. You’ll be able to convert your estimates into an invoice, and keep track of your project estimate history and interaction between clients. A reporting dashboard allows you to glean insights about the status of your invoices and financials. Finally, you’ll also be able to send invoicing reminders.
Zoho supports ten payment gateway options including Stripe and PayPal. It allows you to auto-charge customers at recurring intervals, send payment reminders, record off-line payments and collect advanced payments. Payment gateways charge their own separate payment processing fees (usually around 3% for payments by credit card and 1% for payments by ACH bank transfer), but this is standard in the industry.
Zoho Invoice also allows you to track time spent working on projects and bill clients by project or task.

Zoho Invoice can be integrated with Zoho Analytics, which enables you to create advanced reports about your business and can help reveal insights about your business. It also fits naturally with Zoho Books, for a well-rounded accounting platform.
In fact, Zoho Invoice comes with an extensive number of integrations, from third-party apps such as Dropbox and Google Drive to a selection of Zoho apps including Zoho Projects, Zoho People and Zoho Flow (for a monthly or annual subscription).
Fine Print
As Zoho Invoice is a free service, there are some limitations such as a limit of up to 1,000 invoices per year. However, for small businesses, contract workers and freelancers, that number should be more than enough.
Additionally, while Zoho Invoice does integrate with other Zoho apps, such as Zoho CRM and Zoho Sign, it does not integrate with Zoho Inventory. Given how the two processes often go hand in hand, this may cause issues for some businesses. Zoho Inventory, which is available as a paid service, has its own invoicing system separate from this one.

There are many free invoicing software options available and it makes sense to do some research before committing to one. Here are a few companies and how they stack up.
Although Zoho Invoice has extensive customization options, PayPal ranked higher in our evaluation. All three have a client portal, a mobile app and extensive methods of customer support. Square Invoices does not offer as many customization options for invoice templates. PayPal Invoicing requires users to have a PayPal Business account and there is no option for direct deposit, as there is with Zoho and Square.
